This week has been a swirl of activity and learning and if it's not written down, I know it will pass. Fran and Will today spent about two hours with nails and wood, rubber bands and wire and created the most beautiful and unique sculptures. It was really fun to watch them explore as they worked at the picnic table and I raked leaves. This was after we had gone to the fabric store to buy fleece for ponchos and chemo caps. CC picked out a beautiful pink, Fran a deep yellow and Will, basic black. Grace will have pink, too, which I'm sure she'll grow to love!
Last Sunday we watched a PBS Nature program on chimps and the kids have been fascinated and disturbed by it all week. We did a bit more research on the web about chimps and realize now that they are quite endangered and had some pretty good discussions about poverty and food, needs, and respect for animals. I know it will stay with them.....the whole issue has been very moving for me as well.
There has been lots of pretend play going on....Fran stayed up late last night, looking through her Cecily Mary Barker Fairy book to find suitable names for her fairies....she now has a list of 50 names that she can refer to as she crafts the babies. She and her two friends have put in hours on the fairies and their houses, both indoors and out. She really gets a light in her eyes when she's talking about the fairies and their different personalities. Wonderful!!
Will has been heavily into Bionicles lately....building different ones with different powers...has watched Bionicle 1, 2, and 3....and has taken to building rock shelters outdoors for them. He told me today that he is trying to decipher the bionicle writing and he can't wait to read the books and the Bionicle writing!
CC loves life and some of her favorite activities lately are riding her hobby horse around the house and wanting Grace to "chase" her (I must admit, Grace has picked up speed over the last week!). She also loves her play-doh, anything to do with water, and changing her clothes often. She also really loves the Amanda Pig books and I've read quite a few to Will and CC in the last week.
Grace is a real beauty and has gotten really excited to talk this week....it sounds like Russian, but a few times she has been so excited telling us something, that she's almost fallen backwards! She loves doggies, cups, pulling up, and crawling on top of anyone who happens to be lying on the floor. Favorite foods at this point seem to be blueberries, hot dogs, and anything with cream cheese.
All for now......I'm sure next week will be full of fun, too!
Peace,
Beth
