What The Kids Are Up To Now.....

There has been a question on unschoolingbasics yahoo group that asks what our kids have been doing lately. This is a good place for me to update and write about that question.
When we were going through our week yesterday, it's hard to believe that we can keep all of our business straight! Fran and Will are still very interested in rock climbing and will be going with their dad tonight to the Y climbing room, where he volunteers twice a month. They'll meet him there after Will goes to basketball (at the other Y) and CC and Grace play in the kids gym (the fully padded place for toddlers and babies). Will LOVES basketball and he has a gentle and kind 30 something coach whose focus is fun....that's a blessing. Fran usually is able to spend time with her friends during basketball, playing with her fairies and making new ones. The theme lately has been weddings and babies for the fairies and she spends lots of time on their dresses and veils (beautiful!).
Will's other interests include legos, dinosaurs, bionicles, rescue heroes and playing with all of the above in the homemade stream outside of our back door. He is also very much into being a Wolf Scout and takes his scouting very seriously. He has been full of insightful questions lately, a sure sign that he is maturing and looking at life through the lenses of an almost 8 year old.
Fran continues to READ....Dad just finished reading Fran and Will The Book Of Three by Lloyd Alexander. She loves fantasy and looks forward to participating in the MBA discussion groups at the library, the first one being tomorrow night. She has also been drawing a lot, mostly her fairies and other women dressed in beautiful outfits. She (and Will both) love the outdoors and she loves to play in the stream, too. Next summer, we are looking into a cement patio outside and somehow making a stream with a pump, so as to reduce waste. Fran and Will have both enjoyed their lunches with Dad at Assumption. Fran will go tomorrow and Will Thursday (since last week was busy with dentist's appointments and nobody had a turn!). Tomorrow we will try letterboxing. Each of us has a stamp and we will likely look for the letterbox at the Vietnam Memorial at Green Hill Park, a place that we are familiar with. Fran is also busy with a new Girl Scout troop and trying to choose the badges she will work on. It's hard to choose since there are so many interesting ones!
CC's favorite activities of the moment are anything with Scotch tape (!), music, Dora, Leappad, and playing with markers and play doh. She loves to tell stories and lately has been reading to me (mostly George and martha and other slections that she has memorized). Grace is the baby with the movie star smile, working on crawling (she's getting FAST!), and also loving books. She loves watching her brother and sisters and is babbling up a storm. She has recently learned to give kisses and loves the smiles this new activity receives.
Back to our busy and fun lives! Thanks for reading!
