Curious Minds

I love this illustration of just how curious and involved a child's mind can be, if the child is allowed the freedom to follow his or her own interests. This was the first wooly bear caterpillar that the kids found this Fall (a sure sign that Fall is REALLY here!). "Bella" is beautiful copper and dark black. Fran and Will wanted a really close look and would like to keep her over the winter during her hibernation. An Isabella Tiger Moth is just as beautiful as the caterpillar and we hope "Bella" will emerge in the Spring and be ready to fly off into the garden.
The kids' love of animals never ceases to amaze me...from the earthworms found in the garden, to our hermit crabs, to the neighborhood dogs...any animal is a friend! Right now, they are working their way through a Kids Discovery kit from the West Boylston library on, you guessed it, ANIMALS! The movies are amazing and detailed, and there are a few fun games to play. Will has been having a great time with the Arctic animals and the Jungle animals (two different sets) and he and Fran have made up a pretend game of the Arctic animals floating from river to river until they make it to the Amazon on a very tiny piece of ice to meet up with the jungle animals. So fun....and so engaging.
(My dream: to adopt a NEADS dog for the first year, to get it ready for training.....I can only imagine the goodbye scene now, and we don't even have the dog yet!)
All for now......
