Leave It Alone and It Will Grow!

In the Spring, as we were planting our various gardens, CC took a handful of the mammoth sunflower seeds and wanted to feed the birds. She scattered them all over: I didn't really know where! She was happy, the birds were happy, and the rest of the family was happily putting in vegetables and morning glories and other perennials.
August rolled around. Something was obviously pusing its way through the cracks in the bluestone steps that John put in this Spring. Fran announced...."It's a mammoth sunflower!" And it sure is...MAMMOTH! The biggest and best we've ever had. And such a huge lesson for me. Leave it alone and it will grow. It has enough room, it got enough rain (we didn't water it because we didn't know it was there!)...the conditions were right and it took off, doing what it was supposed to do. Just like the kids, I suppose. Here, you can see Fran and Will with our Mammoth and later I'll post a picture of CC with it in bloom....can't wait!
